5 out of 5 stars Easy to understand and create databases in FileMaker Pro 7   February 7, 2007
Easy to read, well organized, from dummies to experts.

2 out of 5 stars not a good choice   December 17, 2005
I was looking at several different books abut FileMaker and have to say that this one is only good if you don't like reading on-screen directions. This book seems to regurgitate everything in the FileMaker Help menu, while giving some examples. It doesn't really explain WHY you would want to do certain things, just what funtions to use to do them.
I ended up going with Special Edition Using FileMaker 7 by Que. For the same price it offers a lot more.

I found the documentation that was included with FIleMaker Pro 7 inadequate. Without this book I could not have organized my data properly and efficiently. The FileMaker Pro 7 Bible is mandatory and invauluable to all levels of FileMaker users.

I have used this book to learn enough for advanced programmong of a complex Filemaker database. Reading it from front to back and highlighting what I need to know/do is extremeley easy, enjoyable and clear.
I love this book. Simple, well-written and complete.

4 out of 5 stars An excellent revision to the series   June 5, 2005

The FileMaker Pro Bible series has been consistently good, much better than many others in the line, such as cloying, annoying PhotoShop Bible.

Schwartz and Cohen do an excellent job of compiling material on using FileMaker Pro 7. Yes, you could find it all in the FileMaker Pro Help file on the FileMaker site or in a various news groups, not as mere regurgitation, but as a well organized compendium But they save the reader the effort and frequent trouble of doing so.

The material is well-organized, coherent and free of the forced amateurish attempts at humor that mar so many technical books today.

In short, if you use FileMaker Pro 7, you need this book. I've been using FileMaker since its release . . . and the progressive volumes of this series have always been at hand.

Jerry
