Takes a beginner to the pro level September 2, 2003 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
The real value of this book is not in the list of topics covered, but in the way how the contents was put together. Nobody can be an expert in all the relevant topis. Knowing this, Chris turned to a couple of experts focused on individual topics to help him cover the whole FileMaker thing. Every single chapter of this book is a result of a team-work, where at least one member of the team is expert in the specific topic.
A fantastic resource August 29, 2003 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is packed with so much useful information I don't know where to begin! It belongs on the shelf of anyone who wants to improve their FileMaker skills. It is written in an easy-going style that makes it enjoyable to read. But don't let that fool you... it is informative and authoritative. I highly recommend it.You can check out the table of contents and read a chapter .....
Lots of exclusive topics and of REAL WORLD hands on examples August 28, 2003 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I'm not sure what one or another of those reviewers is smoking, but first of all nonew of those things you pointed out are typos. They made sense to me! That part on 146 was unclear, but it was a minor thing and easily remedied if you simply look in FileMaker's built in help. Why nitpick.POTENTIAL BUYERS TAKE NOTE: This book is filled with TONS of hands on, real world examples and techniques on all topics. Keep in mind that the follwoing topics are covered in NO OTHER FILEMAKER BOOK: Applescript, ActiveX, lots of great portal tricks, FMP and MySQL, integrating FMP with faxing, emailing, bar code scanning, Citrix, multi user design, cross-platform design, development standards, building a complete, government-compliant security system, using FileMaker on hand held devices in the real business world, using ten different plugins and details on BUILDING YOUR OWN plugin...need I go on? The book has a Web site (look on google) where you'll find the complete, detailed table of contents ti get the whole skinny on the book. Don't believe those bad reviews. They were clearly looking at a different book or reading when they should have been sleeping.
Filemaker I can understand August 26, 2003 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Finally, a Filemaker reference with real world perspective! Kubica's casual writing style and keen sense of humor make the reader want to curl up in front of a fire and read from cover to cover. I'd like this author to develop MY next filemaker project!
